Planning Tips
There are a large number of forest service campgrounds in the area. Only Curt Gowdy State Park has hookups and a range of amenities. I have stayed at Curt Gowdy and I give it two thumbs up.
If you are eligible to use military campgrounds, there is one at FE Warren AFB in Cheyenne. See the Military Campgrounds map for details.
Nearby destinations include Rocky Mountain National Park and Northwest Nebraska.
Cheyenne and Laramie will offer all necessary service and entertainment options.
Highlights
The southeast corner of Wyoming has more to offer than you may think. Cheyenne, the capital, and its nearby neighbor, Laramie, are a pair of small cities that full of local culture, sites and museums that help tell the regional story. They are large enough to offer dining, arts and entertainment, but small enough that they won’t overwhelm visitors.
The nearby Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest and Medicine Bow Mountain Range offer opportunities for a variety of outdoor activities. Hiking, fishing and climbing are some of the attractions.
It is a place that you might stop for a few days while enroute to another destination, or you might easily make this the focus of a longer stay.
