The Poconos extend as far east as the Delaware River. The eastern reaches are covered as part of the Delaware Water Gap, but one can easily explore both during this stay.
Highlights
The wooded hills and valleys of the Pocono Mountains have long been a tourist destination. This mountainous region extends eastward into New Jersey, but this destination concentrates on the mountains running from Allentown to Wilkes Barre.
This section of the Poconos is known for it waterfalls and covered bridges. It also contains much of the Lehigh River Valley and the Lehigh Gorge.
Visitors should also spend time exploring the historic town of Jim Thorpe. Here you will find a well preserved mountain town famous for its Victorian architecture. The town rests in the Lehigh Valley, where it is surrounded by the Poconos.
This section of the Pocono Mountains will require a week or more to thoroughly explore.
