Highlights

The Cypress Hills are the remnants of a broad plateau that has been eroded leaving a series of hills and rock formations in southern Saskatchewan and Alberta. This 970 square mile (2500 sq km) area share represents the highest point in Canada between the Rocky Mountains and Labrador. A large portion of this is preserved by the Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park.

The hills are typically cooler and wetter than the surrounding plains. They are also home to a wide variety of flora and fauna. Large mammals include moose, elk, pronghorn, cougar and both mule and white-tailed deer.

Visitors will want to explore the canyons, buttes and assorted rock formations spread throughout the hills. Also check out historic Fort Walsh.

The Cypress hills are an ideal destination for a short stay or a great stop along the way when traveling to or from the Canadian Rocky Mountains.
