This section of river is actively being preserved by the Army Corps of Engineers and the US Fish and Wildlife Service to improve habitat for flora and fauna. Nevertheless, use of the river is encouraged.
Boating, hiking and fishing are the primary activities. Numerous campgrounds are spread along both banks of the river.
This is an excellent place to simply relax or it can be a great stop along the way to other destinations in the plains.
