Highlights

The Adirondack Park in northern New York is a mixed-use area of private and state landholdings totaling more than 9000 square miles (24,000 sq km). Inside the park there are vast wilderness areas, forest preserves, large lakes, wild rivers and remote, mountainous areas set aside for a variety of outdoor activities.

The park is the closest thing New York has to a national park, but it is entirely state run. This mountainous area was set aside as a “forever wild” region and it is a place that needs to be explored.
