Planning Tips

  1. There are a handful of campgrounds in the area. I am partial to Stone Mountain State Park, because of its proximity to both mountains and wineries.

  2. The Blue Ridge Parkway is adjacent to the valley, making this a convenient stop. Southwest Virginia is another nearby destination.

  3. Service and Entertainment Options

  4. The interactive map contains several wineries of note recommended by the region’s premier wine influencers. For more information check out the NC Wine Guys.

Highlights

A precise definition of the Yadkin Valley will depend on who you ask, but it is technically a valley carved by the Yadkin River. It extends east from the Blue Ridge Mountains and well into the North Carolina’s Piedmont.

The valley is also a viticultural area producing remarkably good wine. Indeed, the wine alone is a reason to visit and you will find several wineries of note on the Interactive Map.

Proximity to the mountains presents another set of possibilities. Indeed, the Blue Ridge Parkway slices through just to the north and connects visitors to numerous, scenic views, points of interest and trailheads.

Winston-Salem is not technically part of the valley, but it is nearby and offers a variety of opportunities like Old Salem, vibrant arts and an amazing food scene.

So yeah. Put the Yadkin Valley on your short list.
