Planning Tips

  1. There are numerous campgrounds inside this area. All are managed by the state or Corps of Engineer, so you almost can’t go wrong. I stayed at Pomona State Park, which was very nice and well maintained

  2. Topeka is the easiest large municipal area to access, but there are several smaller towns offering most basic services you might need.

  3. The points of interest are pretty far apart, so it is difficult to see more than one in a day. So this can be a one-week destination, or even shorter stop, if you are not interested in seeing everything.

Highlights

If you look at the interactive map on the Eastern Kansas, you might note that it covers a fairly large area with only half a dozen identified points of interest. All of them, with one exception, are managed by the park service and they all help interpret the history of this region.
