There are numerous campgrounds on or near the lake. Additional campgrounds are slightly further away in the national forest. See the campgrounds map.
South Lake Tahoe, on the California side, is the largest metropolitan area for most services. Of course entertainment options are available all around the lake.
This can be a jumping off point before or after Yosemite.
Highlights
Lake Tahoe crosses the border between Nevada and California. The area around the lake is dedicated primarily to tourism and the shoreline includes golf courses, hotels, casinos and any number of shops and restaurants.
Activities around the lake include skiing, hiking, biking, motorcycling and golf. The water provides opportunities for sailing, kayaking, fishing and other similar activities.
There are ample opportunities for staying nearby in one of the many campgrounds.
