South Florida—Beaches and Wetlands
The east coast and and interior of Southern Florida could not present a more stark contrast. From Miami to Palm Beach, the coast is a contiguous urban offering beaches and entertainment options. The interior is a patchwork of protected state and federal wetlands. Nevertheless, together they offer an interesting combination of exploration and relaxation.
The eastern coastline, does offer more than just beaches. Diving in the reefs, lighthouses and a Biscayne National Park are a few of the options. Nightlife, of course, is another obvious draw.
The interior, on the other hand, is a wet wonderland of wildlife and tropical flora. Everglades National Park and Big Cypress National Preserve, combined with several state preserves create a landscape unlike anything else in the United States and possibly North America. The wetlands are awash in alligators, manatees, panthers, 300 species of fish and 350 different tropical birds.
