Northern Oregon Coast

Picture one of the most beautiful and dramatic coastlines you can imagine and mulitiply that several times. That might come close to what you will encounter along the Pacific coast of Northern Oregon. It is a region of picturesque beaches, fantastic scenic overlooks, lovely seaside towns and an abundance of unspoiled wilderness.

Here are a few of the things you can see:

Coastal Towns

Located on the southern shore of the Columbia River, Astoria is the oldest city in the Oregon and the first American settlement west of the Rockies. Founded in 1811 and incorporated in 1876, Astoria remains an important deep-water port.

Garibaldi is another of the many quaint port towns that you might encounter. The old Coast Guard pier is now used primarily for fishing, but it is one of the most photographed structures along this section of the coast.

Lewis and Clark National Historical Park

Lewis and Clark National Historical Park commemorates the place on the Columbia River that marked the westernmost limit of their famous expedition. The park was dedicated in 2004 and is managed by the National Park Service along with the states of Oregon and Washington.

Beaches

Many of the beaches are more than just family-friendly places sunbathe. Cannon Beach was described by National Geographic as one of the 100 most beautiful places in the world. Rockaway Beach is another of the truely photo-worthy spots along the coast.

Other Coastline

There are a large number of jaw-dropping panoramas to be encountered without venturing far from your vehicle. There are even more spectacular views, if you are willing to take even a short hike. This region is just saturated with beautiful vistas.
