Whitehorse is the capital of the Yukon and sits at the crossroad of both the Alaska and Klondike Highways. The city is, however, more than a stop along the way.

Like most capitals, Whitehorse is rich in historic and cultural sites that help visitors understand the territorial past and its present identity. Prehistoric migrations and prospectors drawn to the Klondike gold rush moved through and shaped the region. Today, the city is major tourist hub and the primary center of civilization in a place that is still largely untamed.

Visitors will discover abundant wildlife, paddling opportunities on the Yukon River and hiking trails through the surrounding hills. Numerous waterfalls, steep canyons and stunning vistas will be found just outside the city limits.

Even if you are just passing through, Whitehorse is worth an extended stop.
