Mountain roads can make this area tedious and time-consuming to navigate, but it can be properly explored from a single base, as long as it is near the center of the points of interest.
Petersburg and Franklin are the closest municipalities of any size. They will have most of the basic services you might require. Otherwise, Elkins is the nearest small city.
