Planning Tips

  1. There are some forest service campgrounds outside this area, but still within driving distance. See the interactive campground map.

  2. None of the government campgrounds have hookups, but this should be okay for at least a short stay. Temperatures are mild, even in the summer.

  3. To create a more robust itinerary, consider combining this with Vancouver, Okanagan Valley or the Olympic Peninsula.

  4. This area is pretty remote. Newhalem has a few basic services, but very basic. Plan accordingly.

Highlights

The North Cascades are largely a region of remarkable beauty and remote wilderness. Much of the region is accessible only on foot or small boat, but the east-west, North Cascades Scenic Highway traverses the highlands granting access at least part of the area.
