Planning Tips

  1. There are quite a few park service and forest service campgrounds, but none with hookups. The temperatures here are never excessively hot and summer evenings can be pretty cool, so air conditioning is probably unnecessary.

  2. Tacoma or Yakima are the nearest cities for any serious service needs. Smaller towns like Packwood or Ashford will supply routine needs like fuel, groceries or laundry.

Highlights

Mount Rainier is the highest mountain in the Cascade Range. The steep conical mountain was built by multiple volcanic eruptions. It is covered by glaciers and is frequently shrouded in cloud. Because it ranges in elevation from 1600 to over 14,000 feet, it supports a variety of different ecosystems.
Mount Rainier National Park was established in 1899 as the fifth in the national park system. Today the park attracts climbers from around the globe but supports a variety of other activities. Hiking, biking and camping opportunities abound. Winter activities include skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing and snowmobiling.
