Highlights

The “Northern Neck” is the northernmost of three peninsulas that is bordered in the north by the Potomac River and in the south by the Rappahannock River. This was one of the earliest areas explored and settled by the British. It was originally comprised primarily of large landholdings. Among these was George Washington’s boyhood home.

Today the Northern Neck is known for its many small towns dating back to colonial times. Its many miles of shoreline are filled with marinas and small beaches. The region is also well known for its seafood. Oysters and crabs are chief among the commercial catches.
