Planning Tips

  1. If you have never been, Knoxville is a perfect base of operation for exploring not just the city, but other nearby points of interest.

  2. There is a wide variety of campground options to choose from.

  3. Of course, Knoxville will be your go to for services and entertainment.

Highlights

Knoxville is a very walkable city comprised of numerous small districts. It is also home to University of Tennessee and the site of the 1982 World Fair. Be sure to check out the food scene and activities centered around the Tennessee River.

I made the mistake of staying at another major point of interest and making Knoxville a day trip. If I do it again, I will stay between the city and another destination so that I have the ability to go into Knoxville more than once. See these other options:

Great Smoky Mountains National Park

Cumberland Gap National Historical Park

Big South Fork Scenic River and National Recreation Area
