There are only two campgrounds in close proximity. It is possible to stay at the national park campground north of the border and make one or more visits to Pinacate to explore this destination.
This can easily be combined with Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument in Arizona.
The towns of Sonoyta or Puerto Peñasco are the best nearby options for services and entertainment.
The cost of entry is 215 pesos which is less than $15 (US or Canadian).
Highlights
El Pinacate and Gran Altar Desert Biosphere Reserve (full name) is the sister site to Pipe Organ Cactus National Monument in Arizona. It is an area scarred by volcanic activity and those craters can be found throughout the reserve. The regions mountains and great sand dunes are additional features that add to the character of the reserve.
El Pinacate’s proximity to the border make it an easy day trip that can be part of a visit to Pipe Organ Cactus National Monument. Tours are offered or it is possible to explore on your own.
