Planning Tips

  1. There is a single municipal campground in Havre-Saint-Pierre. Parks Canada has camping options on several islands, but they include cabins or lodging in light houses.

  2. The Mingan Archipelago is accessible from the Gaspe Peninsula by ferry or a long drive along the St. Lawrence River.

  3. Havre-Saint-Pierre is the only option for service and entertainment needs.

Highlights

Mingan Archipelago National Park Reserve includes the Mingan Islands and part of the mainland. It preserves one of the largest collections of erosion monoliths in North America. The park is also a breeding ground for a larger variety of sea birds.

Much of the national park is accessible only by ferry. Services can be found in Havre-Saint-Pierre.

Parks Canada has established facilities on many of the islands to accommodate visits of any duration. There are no established campgrounds, but overnight accommodations are available. Hiking, paddling and fishing are a few of the activities available to visitors.

This is almost a terminal destination. Ferries to the Gaspe Peninsula are one possible follow-on destination. Otherwise, it is a long drive back along the St. Lawrence River.
