Gaspé Peninsula—Quebec

Planning Tips

  1. Quebec refers to its provincial parks as national parks, which can cause some confusion. There are three campgrounds managed by Parks Canada. All others are provincial.

  2. This is a perfect jumping off point to continue on to Quebec or New Brunswick.

  3. The peninsula is pretty remote with no large urban areas. The town of Gaspe, at the northern tip is one of the larger municipalities for services and entertainment. There are a few others large enough to have a supermarket, gas stations and laundry. More significant needs will likely be found in Riviere-du-Loup or Campbellton.

Highlights

The Gaspé Peninsula is bordered to the west by the St. Lawrence River, which is dominated by steep cliffs. The Gulf of St. Lawrence lies to the east. A drive along that coastline will reveal beaches, lighthouses and small fishing towns. Whales and a variety of aquatic birds can be seen from vantage points along the shore.
