There is no shortage of places to stay in or on the edge of the forest.
The island is not huge, but it takes longer to get anywhere than you think it will.
Service and entertainment opportunities are minimal in this area. Smaller communities like Ridgeway and St. Marys are the best loal options.
Highlights
This section of Northeastern Pennsylvania and Southwestern New York was set aside in 1923 to help preserve the remains of land that was once heavily forested. A variety of efforts have managed to create a space that filled with recreational opportunities.
Boating and fishing on the Allegheny River, hiking on the regions numerous trails systems and campgrounds are some of the possibilities.
This is more an area to relax, than one filled with high adventure. Nevertheless, there are numerous waterfalls, local historic sites and scenic overlooks throughout the forest offering opportunities to explore.
