There are park service campgrounds in the recreation area. For more options, see the Campgrounds Map.
This is a great stop along the way when heading north or south on Interstate 35. It is also near the Wichita Mountains.
Sulphur will be abler to provide most service and entertainment needs. For major services, Oklahoma City is the nearest major metropolitan area.
Highlights
Chickasaw National Recreation Area was created from the former Platt National Park and Arbuckle National Recreation Area to preserve the regions’s forested hills and a number of fresh and mineral springs. Today it offers opportunities for fishing, hiking and wildlife observation.
Not far from the recreation area are the Tishomingo National Wildlife Refuge and Fort Washita, which is a major state historic site. Both of these are easy day trips.
This recreation area can be a great stop along the way or a destination for a longer stay.
