Planning Tips

  1. The state manages a campground system inside the Catskills park.

  2. The Catskills are within a day drive of many other destinations. See the Destinations Map for more information.

  3. Albany, about 40 miles (65 km) north of the Catskills, is the nearest major urban center, but numerous smaller towns will offer basic service and entertainment options.

Highlights

The Catskills are a subrange of the Appalachian Mountains and contain more than 30 peaks exceeding 3500 feet. This rugged section of southeastern New York is a land of waterfalls, mountain lakes, fire towers and small towns.

This has long been a popular resort area within a short distance of New York City and other large urban centers in New England. Nevertheless, the Catskills offer many opportunities to enjoy the outdoors. Hiking, paddling, fishing, biking and camping are just a few of the possibilities.
