Asheville is a major stop along the Blue Ridge Parkway. It is also near other prime destinations like Knoxville, the Smoky Mountains and Greenville.

Highlights
Located in the Blue Ridge Mountains at the confluence of the French Broad and Swannanoa Rivers, Asheville is the largest city in this part of North Carolina. It is a municipality rich in historic and cultural sites. Moreover it is widely held to be a major center for arts and entertainment.
The nearby Biltmore estate is the largest privately owned home in the United States. Built originally for the Vanderbilt family, today the mansion and its grounds are operated by Vanderbilt's decedents as a museum and tourist attraction.
Asheville is also a major stop along the Blue Ridge Parkway. This route also connects the city to the Pisgah National Forest and Smoky Mountains National Park.
Finally, the rivers and nearby mountains offer opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, paddling and fishing. So there is something in or near Asheville for everyone.
