Planning Tips

  1. There is a single government campground near the lake, but it is the largest state park in Missouri.

  2. Heading east or west on Interstate 70 or 44, this can be a stop along the way or a longer stay.

  3. If you are eligible to use military campgrounds, the Army operates a recreation area on Lake of the Ozarks. See the Military Campgrounds map.

  4. Municipalities near the lake are all quite small, but should offer most basic services and some entertainment options. For anything major, Jefferson City or Lebanon are the nearest cities.

Highlights

At the time the Osage Dam was constructed, Lake of the Ozarks was the largest man-made lake in the United States. This is no longer true, but it is a major recreation area in the center of Missouri.

The primary activities revolve around the lake. Boating, water sports and fishing are dominant. There are a handful of other attractions nearby, but life near the lake is primary water and relaxation.

The lake is roughly the same distance from Kansas City, Saint Louis and Springfield, making it a convenient getaway.
