Highlights
The town of Hermann rests at the heart of the Missouri Rhineland. It is a region that was settled by German immigrants in the nineteenth century. The town and surrounding counties were heavily influenced by these newcomers and evidence of the German roots is still obvious.
The town considers itself the sausage-making capital of Missouri. There are also May and October Fests that are celebrated annually.
Another tradition that has been handed down is wine production. The German farmers planted grapes and the region became known for wine production. The most notable grape is an American hybrid, the Norton. Some of the 170-year-old Norton vines are still producing fruit.
Hermann is proud of its roots and that is on display. Visitors can expect to discover a little piece of Germany on the Missouri River.
