Planning Tips

  1. There are Forest Service campgrounds not far from the North Shore. If you prefer to look at them, please refer to this site’s main interactive planning map.

  2. The closer the campground is to the lake, the cooler it will be during the summer months and the lake breeze keeps insects at bay.

  3. Duluth and Grand Marais are the two municipalities that will have most of the services you will need during your stay.

Highlights

The part of Minnesota referred to as the “North Shore,” runs north from Duluth and follows he coastline of Lake Superior through Grand Marais and ends at the Canadian border. It includes Split Rock Lighthouse, numerous waterfalls, small coastal towns and amazing views of Lake Superior. It is easily one of the most beautiful drives east of the Rocky Mountains.
