Highlights

The Natchez Trace National Scenic Trail retraces the old 444-mile route that was a primary road for explorers and settlers in the 18th and 19th centuries. During that period these sections of modern-day Tennessee, Alabama and Mississippi were considered the American southwest.

About 60 miles of the trail have been developed for hiking. The remainder must be traveled by motor vehicle, but the route grants access to numerous historic and scenic spots.

The Natchez Trace is an important part of the American story.
