  1. There are four state park campgrounds spread along route.

  2. If you are eligible to use military campgrounds, there is one at Naval Air Station Key West. See the Military Campgrounds map for more information.

  3. Entertainment options exist throughout the keys. For services, the largest metropolitan area is Key West. Other possibilities include Islamorada and Key Largo.

Highlights

The Keys are a series of islands beginning of the tip of Florida. All of the inhabited Keys are connected by the Overseas Highway that terminates at Key West. The chain actually extends beyond that and ends with the Dry Tortugas.

The island chain is part of a unique ecosystem that supports plants and animals that occur only in the Keys. This is the northernmost range of the American crocodile. Other distinct species are the Key deer and the Key Largo woodrat.

Aside from time on the beach, the Keys offer opportunities for fishing and boating. Some of the central Keys are dark sky areas ideal for astronomers. Visits to Dry Tortugas can also be arranged from Key West.

It is a long drive down and back, but an the Keys offer an adventure unlike any other in North America.
