Planning Tips

  1. One park service campground is the only place with hookups. There are numerous county campgrounds west of the national park, but all are dry camping.

  2. This can easily be paired with the Mojave itinerary. Sequoia and Kings Canyon cannot be accessed from the west. See the Destinations Map.

  3. Small towns like Lone Pine and Bishop are the best bets for basic services and entertainment. Otherwise, Las Vegas is the nearest major metropolitan area.

Highlights

Death Valley rests in the northern Mojave Desert bordering the Great Basin Desert. Its Badwater Basin has the lowest elevation in North America (282 feet below sea level). The valley is also believed to be the hottest place on the planet.

Despite any of its negative attributes, it is a remarkably beautiful place. In the right season, it is also quite hispitable. In fact, the desert is very much alive with a vast array of flora and fauna.

Spring wildflowers bloom in the valley. Big horn sheep and ferrel donkeys are among the large mammals that can be seen.

The park is accessible by road. Visitors can experience incredible desert vistas and explore the parks many historic sites.
