Highlights

Phoenix is a major metropolitan area with no shortage of things to see and do in town or in the surrounding area. There are many museums, parks and incredible dining opportunities. It is also reasonably easy to navigate through the city and outlying communities.

In town be sure to check out the Desert Botanical Garden near Scottsdale. Also, just south of town is South Mountain Park and Preserve with hiking and great mountain views.

Further out, you will find a pair of national monuments with ancient adobe ruins. Tonto National Monument lies on the other side of the Superstition Mountains. Its cliff dwellings are attributed to the Salado people.

Just south of the city is Casa Grande National Monument. Very little remains outside of the “great house,” but the Hohokam peoples established a vast agrarian community in this valley.

Many people stay for the winter season, but you will need at least a long weekend to take in the major points of interest.
