Grasslands National Park
This park is just north of the American state of Montana and rests on the international border. The 350 square miles were set aside to preserve a shortgrass prairie ecosystem. Visitors to the Grasslands will find opportunities for hiking, biking, camping and stargazing—Grasslands is a certified dark sky area. There are two separate and unique units of the park to explore.
Western Unit
The Western Unit is primarily rolling prairie and is home to a herd of about 300 bison and a lot of prairie dogs. The Frenchman River Flows through the section, which is an important bird habitat.
Eastern Unit
The Eastern Unit is primarily a wilderness with a single lane road running through this section of the park. It differs from the other part of the park in that it has a large section of badlands.
