Central Alabama is rich in historic sites. Many are clustered in the cities, but there are several that are located in smaller towns.

The Talladega National Forest, Lake Martin and Moundville Archeological Park are also in this part of the state. All offer opportunities for outdoor activities and a break from sightseeing in and around the urban areas.
