Planning Tips

  1. There are five state park campgrounds in close proximity to Denali National Park. Only one offers hookups.

  2. Nearby destinations include Anchorage and Fairbanks. Rail service to Denali is offered from both cities.

  3. There are numerous small towns north and south of the park. All will provide basic service and entertainment needs. For major services, you may need to travel to either Fairbanks or Anchorage.

Highlights

Denali National Park and Preserve includes over 9000 square miles centered around North America's highest peak. Very little of the park is accessible by road. Trips into the interior must be undertaken on foot or aircraft.

Even if you are just interested in capturing photographs of this iconic American mountain, that may be reason enough to visit and view from a distance. Spending more than a day is recommended in order to have the best chance gaining a clear line of sight, because the mountain is often obscured by clouds.

Nevertheless, there is much more to do in the park. Short day hikes allow access to many other incredible features of the park and chances to view the abundant wildlife.
