There are only three government campgrounds, but they are adequate for supporting local demand. Nevertheless, a reservation is advised.
Bar Harbor will have most basic services and entertainment needs. Ellsworth is the nearest city offering more major service options.
Highlights
Acadia National Park is comprised of coastline, mountains, forest and inland lakes. Established long after the area was settled, parcels of private land and small towns are interspersed among sections of the park.
The resort town of Bar Harbor is the nearest municipality of any size and offers a variety of opportunities for visitors to the area. Whale watching tours, fishing excursions, boat rentals and other activities can be arranged in town.
