Planning Tips

  1. There are more than a dozen Parks Canada campgrounds along the route with and without amenities. All are included on the interactive map above.

  2. There are many other points of interest along this route, most are included and can be expanded on the interactive map above.

  3. Nearby destinations include British Columbia’s Southeastern Parks and Glacier and Waterton Lakes.

  4. Most service and entertainment needs will be found in the villages of Banff or Jasper. Major service requirements may need to be sought outside the parks in Calgary or Edmonton.

  5. If coming up from the south, consider picking up Route 93 in Radium Springs to include Kootenay National Park in your route.

Highlights

The Icefields Parkway extends 165 miles (265 km) between Banff and Jasper National Parks along Route 93. Most of the drive follows the ridgeline of the Northern Rockies delivering dramatic views of glaciers, glacial lakes, towering peaks and mountain valleys.

Based on its length, the drive can obviously be done in a day. That is not recommended. There is so much to see and explore along the route, that a week might not be long enough.

Open and expand the Other Points of Interest tab on the Interactive Map to see just a few of the things this route offers.
